We have been very busy preparing for upcoming clinic and our final round of massage technique is centred on Sports Massage.
Each sport or activity has its own specific muscle groups that need attention and care. Sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. Sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons – this is where spending time on specific training techniques pays off.
We are currently learning the techniques for pre event, intra event, and post event massage. We also discussed the potential of other factors such as the emotional attachment to injury or the event that created it which needs to be taken into account when appropriately dealing with our client.
