Diary of a Beauty Therapist Student – Term 2 Week 4

We had the hugest Monday filled with written and practical assessment of the new techniques gained in last week’s module on Advanced Facials…I’m fairly confident that I scraped through.

Talking about scraping, this week we are learning how to use the Micro Dermabrasion tool.  Think of a tiny vacuum that sucks dead skin cells into its filter as it lightly scrapes the outer layer of epidermis and buffs the remaining skin.  The tiny nozzle is coated with diamonds and depending on the type of skin and purpose of the treatment will determine the coarseness of the nozzle head.  I read on the internet that it’s a popular (and cheaper, much cheaper) alternative to Botox or facelift.

We discussed the pre treatment consultation with the client to understand their expectations and for us it’s an opportunity to look for contraindications.  Some skin preparation may be required for certain types of skin to achieve optimal results. Post treatment is focused on providing advice to the client on maintaining skin care such as cleansing, moisturising, and sunscreen.

I can definitely tell we are coming to the pointy end of the semester with the next 3 – 4 weeks scattered with theory and practical assessments, however we are all very excited to be receiving some Yuva organic skin care training in the coming weeks!!
